Hiker Injured In Fall
A Morehead University student is hospitalized after falling 100 feet down a cliff. Officials say he was with a group of students Sunday hiking at Lockegee Rock near Clack Mountain Road East in Rowan County, a very popular hiking spot.
“We have tourists from other states who come up here to hike. It’s also a very popular hangout for college students,” said Ronnie Day, Rowan County Emergency Management Director.
The hikers were about a mile and a half away from the closest roadway when the incident happened. “We have foot trails back on the path and some of them are passable and some of them are very narrow. One wrong step and things can happen to you like what happened with this gentleman here,” said Day.
The student suffered substantial leg injuries during the fall and was airlifted to UK Hospital.
