Madison Airport Set For Name Change

The Madison Airport will soon have a name change, effective at the end of July the airport will become Central Kentucky Regional Airport.

According to airport board member George Wyatt the name change will reflect the airport’s growing role in serving the region. He says the change will also reflect how the facility is growing and expanding services plus it will help in marketing.

The airport is growing with improvements in several phases. Phase one has already seen some projects get underway and several more to go. They include expanding ramp space for additional aircraft to park and a new parking lot for vehicles. Phase One also includes a new $350,000 hanger to house 14 aircraft from Eastern Kentucky University aviation program.

Phase Two is mostly in the planning stage but will include a new $1.5 million terminal and the addition of hangers to house individual aircraft.

The airport is also expected to house a new helicopter flight school that will serve EKU students.
