Multi Vehicle Accident Claims One Life
A multi vehicle accident involving three semi’s and a mini van on I-75 has claimed the life of Stephen Greene, 69, of Ashland. It happened at about 1:30 p.m. about 2 miles north of mount Vernon when a semi rear ended Greene knocking his vehicle into another semi.
Sherri Collier was a nearby motorist an tried to help the victim. “He wasn’t moving or anything. I didn’t see anything but airbags covering him so I tried to pull the door open, and when I pulled the door open, he was stiff an breathing very very hard” she said.”I didn’t know what else to do, I tried to save him, I tried to help.”
A passenger in Greene’s vehicle was airlifted to UK Hospital. The northbound lanes were blocked for more than 7 hours. Traffic was diverted to US 25 but that quickly came to a standstill causing even more delays and congestion.
State Police eventually allowed motorist to use the median and some were allowed to back up and turn around. “We’re letting a few vehicles that were right behind the crash site that didn’t witness anything to go around the collision in the median,” said Trooper Loyd Cochran. “
All lanes reopened to traffic just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.
