Indiana Man Accused of Killing 6-year-old Pleads Not Guilty

The Indiana man accused of entering a Versailles home and stabbing to death a 6 year old child was in court this morning.

Police say on the morning of December 7th, Ronald Exantus, 32, entered the home and allegedly stabbed to death Logan Tipton, 6, a kindergartner at Simmons Elementary, to death
His attorney Bridget Hofler entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Hofler told reporters this is not a usual murder case.

“This case is unlike any of the eight capitol cases that I represent. This gentleman has absolutely no ties to this family, no ties to Kentucky, he’s nevr been to Kentucky except to drive through it to my knowledge to get to Florida, and we know nothing” said Bridget Hofler. “Our client is not able top tell us much of anything. He’s mainly delusional and when he is not its been very difficult to communicate.”

Hofler told reporters last month that she feels certain “he’s mentally ill” and noted that he was unresponsive when she asked him about his background and family.

Wednesday’s hearing, which would typically be held in circuit court, was his first court appearance since a grand jury returned an indictment.

Exantus was indicted on charges of capital murder, first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. Capital murder, an aggravated offense, makes Exantus eligible for the death penalty.

Sheriff Wayne Wright said they moved Exantus’ arraignment from Woodford County circuit court to district court because of safety concerns for Exantus, his family and the family of Logan Tipton.

Exantus will be back in court on March 2nd
