2 Workers Recovering After Boiler Explosion at Sand Gap Elementary School

Children at Sand Gap Elementary student were evacuated to the school gym after a boiler explosion, according to school officials.

No children were injured in what the school describes as a “small explosion,” that occurred during maintenance operations.  A contractor and a maintenance worker were taken to the hospital for treatment.  Their injuries are non-life threatening and are said to be recovering well.

There were 240 students at the school at the time of the explosion.

School officials say students will be taken to McKee Elementary to finish the school day.  Parents also have the option of picking up their children and taking them home.
