Companies That Dumped Radioactive Material In Estill Landfill Files For Bankruptcy
The two companies fined for illegal dumping of radioactive material at the Estill County landfill have filed for bankruptcy.
Friday evening Advance Tenorm Service, BES and it’s owner Corey Hawkins each filed for bankruptcy. In the filings with U.S. District Court in Ashland, Hoskins lists assets of less than $100,000, but debts of more than $1 million. BES and Advanced TENORM each list assets of less than $50,000, but debts of more than $1 million.
In November Hoskins and the two companies were each fined $2.65 million by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
According to environmental activist, the bankruptcy filings appear to be an attempt to avoid paying the fines
