If you’re looking for a fun derby party, it’s time for the 2017 Richmond Area Arts Council Derby Jazz Brunch.

This year the annual event will be held at the Firsts Christian Church, 412 West Main Street. It will feature a brunch along with music by Mike and Issac Jazz Duet as well as many other activities.

We’ll have our derby hat contest, we also have souvenir derby pictures courtesy of J&K Creations, that’s Kim and Jerry Owens and we’re going to have lots of door prizes,” said Council Director Deborah Kidd. “We’re going to have drawings for different door prizes, some of them graphite paintings, we’re going to give away roses, fixed in bunches of a half dozen and we’ll also have artist there.”

Post time is 10:30a.m. and will continue until 1:30p.m. If you’re planning on attending, don’t forget you hat.

The hat judging will be two or three judges and it doesn’t have to be just a beautiful hat, it can be the most outlandish hat,” said Kidd. “ Last year’s winner was one that could double as a wreath, if you can imagine. One could barely see the wearer, it was won by Mr. Jerry Owens.”

Tickets are still available. You can purchase tickets until 5p.m. Friday for $25 at Central Bank on Main Street, Berkshire Hathaway-Don Foster 920 Barnes Mill Road, Hairmasters Salon and Spa or at RAAC’s web page: artsinrichmond.org. You can purchase tickets Saturday at the door for $30.
