Hiker Killed At Red River Gorge
A weekend hiking accident at Red River Gorge has claimed the life of an Ohio man.
It happened shortly after 11p.m. Saturday, when Michael Hacker, 30, fell from Chimney Top Rock in Menifee County .
Wolfe County Search and Rescue volunteer Eddy Conner says from the initial call they knew it would be bad.
“He crossed the safety railing. He fell approximately a little more than 200 foot, we knew it was a recovery effort,” said Eddy Conner.
About 18 Search and Rescue volunteers from Menifee, Wolfe and Powell counties participated in the recovery operation.
Conner reminds hikers to never cross safety railings and to remain cautious. “Think twice before you do something, look at all the possibilities, see what the dangers are,” he said.
