Madison County Dispatcher Killed In Fight

Another set back for first responders in Madison County.

A fight Friday night in Owsley County has left Madison County dispatcher Benjamin Brewer, 28, dead of a stab wound to the neck. State police say Dustin Sparks, 25, stabbed Brewer during an argument at at a Owsley County Home.

It appeared there was some sort of a brief verbal argument that led to the situation with him being fatally stabbed,” said State Trooper Robert Purdy. “

The argument broke out around 10:30 p.m. at a home on Fairgrounds Road. Owsley County coroner Rob Morgan says Brewer died at the home from a deep stab wound to the neck.

State Police arrested Sparks after the incident. The coroner says Sparks was highly intoxicated at the scene. Sparks is now in the Three Forks Regional Jail, charged with murder.

The stabbing is especially hard on first responders in Madison County. In September, dispatcher Jackie Rose was shot and killed in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.

“This is actually the second dispatcher to tragically lose their life in Madison County and here in Madison County we’re also just trying to deal with the tragic death of Daniel Ellis,” said Trooper Purdy. “So obviously this kind of brings back feelings and open wounds that people here are still trying to deal with.”

Police escorted the body to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort where an autopsy will be conducted.
