Hoverboards Restricted At EKU Dorms
– Special to WEKY AM 1340 –
Eastern Kentucky University has joined more than 30 other universities nationwide that have banned or restricted hoverboards on their campuses.
In an e-mail to students, EKU announced that hoverboards are prohibited from the university’s housing facilities.
Spokesperson Kristi Runyon Middleton says the decision was made largely because of concerns that the items could catch fire. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported last week that it’s investigating 28 fires in 19 states tied to the motorized scooters.
Middleton says hoverboards can currently still be used on university property.
